To make Ottawa a global leader in responsible AI development, governance, and advocacy.
ORAH is committed to fostering responsible AI practices through education, dialogue, advocacy, and recognition of best practices across sectors. The initiative seeks to drive discussions on AI ethics, data governance, and privacy while influencing policy and creating a network of stakeholders dedicated to responsible AI.
ORAH’s objectives span several activities and initiatives aimed at promoting responsible AI and data protection:
Ottawa stands out as Canada’s “Tech Hub,” home to over 1,700 technology companies, research institutions, and policy think tanks, providing a fertile ground for AI development and governance. The city's proximity to federal government bodies, including those focused on science, innovation, and regulation, allows it to take a leading role in shaping national and global AI policy. Additionally, with key players like the National Research Council (NRC), Shopify, and the University of Ottawa’s AI + Society Initiative, Ottawa is uniquely positioned to lead the charge in responsible AI and digital ethics.
